DATA PRIVACY POLICY

 

1. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

1.1. Notice. This is the Data Privacy Notice (“Notice”) of Metro (Private) Limited of 12 Ang Mo Kio Street 65 #05-01 Singapore 569060 (“Metro”) may from time to time collect, use and disclose your personal data.  

1.2. Compliance with the Notice. This Notice applies to all personal data you provide to us, or that we may collect about you. Please do not provide any personal data to us if you do not accept this Notice.

We may also require you to accept this Notice when you contact, interact, transact or deal with us, or when you access and use our websites, applications or services. If you notify us that you do not accept this Notice, we may not be able to establish a relationship with you or be able to service your request.

Metro respects the privacy of individuals and is committed to its obligations under the Personal Data Production Act (PDPA) 2012 (Act 26 of 2012) and any subsidiary legislation (the “Act”) in respect of personal data.

1.3. Concerns and contacting us. If you have any feedback or issues in relation to your personal data, or about this Notice, or wish to make a complaint to us, you may contact our Data Protection Officer at dpo@metro.com.sg.

1.4. Amendment to this Notice. We may amend this Notice from time to time prior to your notice, to comply with the applicable laws or as we update our data usage and handling processes. The updated Notice will supersede earlier versions and will apply to the personal data provided to us previously.

 

2. PERSONAL DATA

2.1. Your Personal Data (“Personal Data”) means data about you, other than your business contact information, that specifically identifies you or data about you which combined with other information that Metro has or is likely to have access to can be used to identify you.

2.2. List of Personal Data. The list of Personal Data includes, but is not limited to, your name, address, gender, date of birth, email address, mobile number, marital status, photographs and videos of you while you are on our premises, and information specific to computer or electronic device (“Devices”) to access the website at www.metro.com.sg (“Metro Online”) , Facebook page, Instagram account, WhatsApp and other social media platforms (“Metro Social Platforms") used by Metro from time to time.

2.2.1. At no circumstance will Metro ask for financial details like bank credentials or account balances.

2.2.2. When in doubt, do not disclose any information and call our Customer Service or write to dpo@metro.com.sg for clarification.

 

3. POINTS OF COLLECTION

3.1. Where do we collect. Your Personal Data may be collected when you deal with or contact Metro. For example:

3.1.1. When you make purchases or enquiries at Metro department stores, Metro Online and Metro Social Platforms;

3.1.2. When you access and/or use Metro Online and/or Metro Social Platforms;

3.1.3. When you sign up to be part of our loyalty programme (“Treasured”);

3.1.4. When you sign up with Metro’s co-brand partners, including co-brand credit card, which entitles you to rewards and benefits available at Metro;

3.1.5. When you contact Metro directly or via authorised third parties/appointed agencies (e.g. when you speak to a Metro sales promoter or brand partner, or when you give consent for our appointed research agency to reach out to you);

3.1.6. When you are in the vicinity of Metro’s surveillance cameras.

3.2. Voluntary provision of Personal Data. Your provision of Personal Data to us is voluntary and you have the right to withdraw your consent for us to use your personal data at any time by contacting and submitting a request to us. Your withdrawal will take effect after your request is processed.

3.2.1. Should you choose not to provide us with the Personal Data we require, it may not be possible for us to fulfil the purposes for which we require the Personal Data, including providing products and services which you need from us.

3.3. Providing Personal Data belonging to others. If you provide Personal Data relating to a third party (e.g. information about your dependent, spouse, children and/or parents) to us, you represent and warrant that the consent of that third party has been given/obtained for our collection, use and disclosure of their Personal Data in connection with the purposes contemplated by this Notice and that such personal data is accurate and complete.

3.4. Accuracy and completeness of Personal Data. You must ensure that all personal data that you provide is true, accurate and complete and promptly inform us of any changes to the Personal Data.

3.5. Minor. If you are under the age of 18 years old, please seek the consent of your parent or guardian before you provide your Personal Data to us. If you are a parent or guardian and you have reasons to believe your child or ward has provided us with their Personal Data without your consent, please write to dpo@metro.com.sg to request for the removal of their Personal Data.

 

4. PURPOSES

4.1. Why we collect. Your Personal Data may be collected, used or disclosed by or on behalf of Metro for the following purposes:

4.1.1. To facilitate your access and/or use of any of Metro Online or Metro Social Platforms;

4.1.2. To manage your subscription to Metro's mailing list;

4.1.3. To facilitate transactions between Metro and you ("Transactions");

4.1.4. To facilitate the provision of services by Metro in connection with your use of any of Metro Online or Metro Social Platforms and the Transactions (the "Services");

4.1.5. To respond to your queries or feedback;

4.1.6. Where relevant, to process and administer any insurance claims or payments;

4.1.7. To facilitate activities organised by Metro which you participate in;

4.1.8. To administer any card rewards/benefits applicable to your card membership with Metro's co-brand partners;

4.1.9. To manage and maintain your user accounts, if any, on any of Metro Online or Metro Social Platforms, your Metro membership account (“Treasured Account”), your  membership profile with Metro's co-brand partners and/or your subscription to Metro's mailing list;

4.1.10. To offer you a more individualised environment in connection with your use of Metro Online or Metro Social Platforms;

4.1.11. To allow you to share content on social media together with a message specified by Metro;

4.1.12. To refine or improve the security, use, features and functions of your Metro Card or Metro Online or Metro Social Platforms;

4.1.13. To develop new features and functions of any of Metro's Website & E-Platforms;

4.1.14. To improve on the Services;

4.1.15. To keep you informed of Metro's announcements and promotions;

4.1.16. To resolve disputes that may arise between Metro and you;

4.1.17. Where necessary, for any investigation or proceedings;

4.1.18. To comply with applicable laws;

4.1.19. For Metro's evaluative purposes as defined under the Act; and

4.1.20. For the specific purposes for which your Personal Data was provided or any purposes exempted under the Act. Metro may from time to time notify you of other purposes of collection, use or disclosure of your Personal Data and you are deemed to have consented to collection, use or disclosure of your Personal Data for such purposes by your continued use of the Metro Online or Metro Social Platforms. Metro will not sell or rent your Personal Data to third parties.

4.2. Metro appointed subsidiaries and third parties. Metro may disclose your Personal Data to its appointed subsidiaries and third parties. The appointed subsidiaries and third parties may collect, use and/or disclose your Personal Data in connection with any of the purposes stated in this Notice.

 

5. COOKIES

5.1. Usage. Metro may use cookies to facilitate your use of any of Metro Online and Metro Social Platforms, the Transactions and the provisions of the services.

5.2. Third party cookies. Metro is not responsible for any third party cookies.

5.3. Blocking cookies. By blocking cookies on your Devices or on Metro Online or Metro Social Platforms, not all features and functions of the Metro Online or Metro Social Platforms will function properly, and some of the Transactions may not be completed as a result.

5.4. Risk. Metro will implement policies and practices as required by the Act to protect your Personal Data in Metro’s possession or control from unauthorised access, collection, use, disclosure, copying, modification, disposal or similar risk.

5.5. Personal Data collected by third party websites. Metro shall not be responsible for Personal Data collected, used or disclosed by the third party websites if you access such websites via any of Metro Online or Metro Social Platforms. Any data protection policies and practices of such third parties are not intended to be covered by this Notice.

5.6. Metro Online account. f you have an account with Metro Online, please use unique letters and numbers for your password and remember to sign out of your account when using a shared computer. You should not disclose your password to anyone. If you disclose your password or your Personal Data to a third party, you shall be responsible for all actions taken in the name of your account with Metro. If you lose your password or believe that your password or account has been compromised, you should inform Metro immediately.

6. ACCESS AND ACCURATY OF PERSONAL DATA

6.1. Verification. Metro may adopt verification practices or processes such as asking you questions relating to your identity, checking against Personal Data in Metro's possession and control or requesting that you furnish additional information.

6.2. Amendment of Personal Data. You will be allowed to access or update your Personal Data by sending a request to Metro. A fee may be chargeable for your access to Your Personal Data. Metro will endeavour to respond to such requests within 30 days.

6.3. Right of refusal. Metro is entitled to reject, among others, requests that are frivolous or vexatious or for information that is trivial.

6.4. Error in Personal Data. If you believe your Personal Data contains an error or omission, please inform Metro promptly. Metro may not make the correction if it is satisfied on reasonable grounds that the correction should not be made.

7. WITHDRAWAL OF CONSENT TO RECEIVE MARKETING INFORMATION

7.1. Withdrawal of consent. You may withdraw your consent to receive marketing information by sending an email to Metro's Data Protection Officer at dpo@metro.com.sg stating your name and address.

7.2. Withdrawal of marketing consent only. If you wish to only withdraw your consent to receive marketing information via email or SMS, you may unsubscribe by following the instructions in the latest email or SMS containing such content.

7.3. Time taking to process. Metro will endeavour to process and effect such withdrawal within 30 days. You may withdraw your consent in relation to other purposes by contacting Metro's Data Protection Officer at dpo@metro.com.sg.

7.4. Consequences. Where applicable, Metro will inform you of the likely consequences of withdrawing your consent.

7.5. Consent for multiple purposes. If you have given your consent for multiple purposes, please note that your Personal Data may still be collected, disclosed and/or used for purposes for which no withdrawal of consent was made.

7.6. Retaining Personal Data. Please note that even upon complete withdrawal of consent, Metro may still retain your Personal Data necessary for legal and business reasons or as permitted or required by applicable laws.

 

8. VARIATION

8.1. Amendments and modification. Metro reserves the right to modify this Policy from time to time by posting the modifications on this page or at www.metro.com.sg. Please check this page or the www.metro.com.sg regularly for any modifications. Such modifications will be effective immediately and incorporated into this Notice.
